An employee received over 200.000 crowns in damages after being dismissed because he left for fertility treatment. The Western Regional Court ruled that this dismissal violated the law on equal treatment between men and women at work. It is the first ruling stating that equal treatment is also valid for men. “This ruling is very important for the protection
of our members – men or women – so they cannot be dismissed simply because they
want to have kids” said Mette Kindberg, VP of the HK union. The case concerned
a graphic designer, member of the HK/Privat union, who followed a fertility
treatment with his companion, for which he had to leave work twice a month. After
suffering from moral harassment, he was fired on the grounds of decreased
orders, even though a new graphic designer was hired immed
