On 23 March 2023 Denmark’s Parliament adopted several amendments to the Aliens Act so that companies can more easily recruit workers from outside the European Union and the European Economic Area (EEA). The aim of the reform is to support the Danish economy and address the skills shortage.
The new law, which will come into effect on 01 April 2023, was tabled on 09 February 2023 and is based on a political agreement reached in June 2022 between the previous government and a number of parties. The text aims to ease the procedures for obtaining work and residence permits, expand the pool of potential foreign applicants, and enable more companies to recruit non-EU workers by way of the fast-track scheme.
