Employers’ bodies and certain trade unions continue to sound alarm bells over a problem on the horizon (2020), namely the lack of skilled labor and they are calling for a variety of reforms to surmount the looming problem. However, a new study conducted by the Economic Council of the Labour Movement (ECLM) seems to query the severity of the problem. The economic policy unit shows that unemployment rates among recent graduates are double those prevailing before the economic crisis and invites employers to hire these candidates before calling for reforms to save a non-existent situation.
“There is a disequilibrium between what we teach the young and what businesses actually need. We need to teach and train our youths in those disciplines that our businesses require,” declared Lone Folmer Berthlesen, head of occupational training at the employers’ body Dansk Industri (DI), during a presentation of the results of its most recent study on the shortage of skilled labor.
