Denmark : social system overhaul triggers angriness

The government introduced, on 4 April 2006, am ambitious plan to reform the country's welfare system, in order to face the challenges of globalization and the cost of this system in the future. With fifty or so proposals involving retirement pensions, pre-retirement pensions, employment, education and integration, these reforms aim at creating better conditions for growth, prosperity and welfare. These proposals are partly based on the work of the Commission on welfare, implemented in 2003 and in charge of analyzing and opening a wide public debate on the future of the Danish welfare system. The Government also took into account the work done by the Globalization Council, implemented in April 2005, and that of the tri-party Commission on vocational training, designated by the government at the end of 2004.
