In an historic meeting on September 9, 2014, the LO (The Danish Confederation of Trade Unions) and the FTF (the Confederation of Professionals in Denmark) agreed on unprecedented cooperation so as to speak with a common voice on labor market demands during the 2015 legislative elections. This will be the first time that the FTF has participated in an election campaign and the first time that the LO takes a politically ‘neutral’ stance during an election. The two unions have also set up a pilot committee tasked with tightening links between the two confederations with a view to merging. The committee should finish its work before the confederations autumn congress meetings.
“Together we will have more political weight, and we will have more influence from an employee perspective on parliamentary elections; issues that have been problematic in recent times”, declared the FTF President Bente Sorgenfrey when commending this new step taken together with the LO leader Harald Börsting.
