Leaders of Ver.di, the services union, presented, on Thursday May 10, 2007, the results of the vote on the strike in Deutsche Telekom : 96.5% of the 21,900 registered votes expressed in favour of a strike, which will start this coming Friday. This vote is the consequence of several weeks' negotiations with no result on the transfer modalities for 50,000 employees to an external company. (Ref. 070417)
An overwhelming majority of the Ver.di members concerned by Deutsche Telekom’s plans thus voted for the start of what will be the first strike in the old public operator’s history: “the strike will start as early as Friday. The union received a clear mission from its members”, specified Lothar Schröder, Ver.di’s negotiator, announcing a strike that could last for several months.
