EMF launches European coordination group over Siemens-Nokia merger

The European Metalworkers' Federation (EMF) is organizing the trade union coordination that will look after the Siemens' communications branch and Nokia merger. The EMF's objectives include negotiating information and consultation rights, as well as codetermination standards identical to those applying at Siemens, and in any case better than those at Nokia. On September 13th, the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF) gathered 25 union representatives from Nokia and Siemens. The two IT leaders announced last June their intention to merge. For Siemens, only the communication branch will be involved. The merger will take effect on next January 1st, and should result in a 10 to 15% cutback of jobs, according to senior executives.
