On 06 August in a joint press statement, global union federation IndustriALL Global Union and the clothing brand’s European subsidiary announced the signing of a global agreement covering 525,000 workers at more than 1,100 suppliers in 27 countries. *
Signed on 13 April 2018 and made public in August, the agreement’s signatories recognize ‘the crucial role that freedom of association and collective bargaining play in empowering workers and developing well-functioning industrial relations,’ and that both parties ‘will collaborate to set up mechanisms to make it easier for local trade unions to negotiate detailed collective agreements with all suppliers to Esprit at the national or local level.’
