ETUC sends memorandum to the Austrian presidency of the EU

In its memorandum published on January 11th 2006, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) hopes the Austrian presidency will give a true "social dimension" to the EU. Following is the bulk of the ETUC’ s demands. The ETUC forgets to ask for the overhaul of the directive on work councils (Ref 0631).

Flexi-security. “Trade unions and workers across Europe will only be prepared to discuss and negotiate on flexi-security if their fundamental rights are guaranteed and if there is a balance between the interests of companies and those of workers”. This balance should be sought “not just in terms of working conditions but also as regards the anticipation and management of change and the negative results for workers and territories resulting from the relocation of companies and activities”....
