The executive Committee of the European Confederation of trade unions (ETUC) which met in Brussels on June 6 and 7, expressed its position on three subjects: the debate on the future of Europe and the European Constitution, the "Services" directive on working time. (Réf. 06588)

” Social provisions are necessary to obtain the active support of workers in Europe”, said the secretary-general of the ETUC, John Monks. The confederation considers that the Constitution issue “cannot be simply put aside, which seems to be the wish of some politicians. The ETUC wants to respect “the decision of the 15 Member States of the EU (soon 16) which already ratified it and continues to consider the existing text as being the best option available”.
