EU: Commission ready to adopt legislation on minimum rights for all workers by year end

The European Commission has just launched the second phase of consultation with social partners on a possible revision of the so-called Written Statement Directive, which applies to employment contracts, geared towards ensuring a set of basic rights for all workers. With the launch of the new phase of consultation, Marianne Thyssen, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, also gave an indication as to the timeframe for implementing this so-called ‘pillar of social rights’. The initiative seeks to bring the ‘social dimension’ back to the heart of the European project.
