January 28, 2015 saw the creation of the Automotive Skills Council. Specifics as to the exact role for the automobile employers’ bodies still need to be clarified. For the moment the Council is focusing on subcontractors and suppliers and aims to anticipate the sectors’ current and future skills needs. Its first project plans to set up a networking platform for exchange on training and skills. In Europe the automobile industry employs 17 million of which 12 million work directly for automobile companies and 5 million for automobile suppliers. The industry is one of the most important in Europe in terms of investment and research.
An Automotive Skills Council for Europe. On January 28, 2015 the first Council meeting was held. The Council has an initial life of 18 months and is funded by the European Commission DG Employment. Project partners are: IndustriALL (employee representation), CLEPA (European Association of Automotive Suppliers), and ETRMA (European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association).
