On 31 July 2025, the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) unveiled proposals to revise mandatory reporting standards under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Coming after the postponement of application and raising of thresholds, this marks the third major scaling back of European companies’ social and environmental disclosure obligations.
In response to a request from the European Commission in the spring, as part of its deregulation agenda, EFRAG concluded its work on revising the CSRD indicators on 31 July. This has resulted in a 57% reduction in the number of indicators compared to the list defined in the delegated act adopted in 2023 and applied by the first wave of companies subject to the directive in their first sustainability reports published this year.
