Despite the Coronavirus crisis, the European Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights does not intend to alter his work priorities. During a webinar organized on 19 May by the European Policy Centre, Commissioner Nicolas Schmit confirmed the imminent launch of the second consultation phase on a fair minimum wage (c.f. articles No.11587 and No.11693).

“This crisis is one of the worst, if not the worst, we have ever experienced”, said the Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights in his opening remarks. Over the course of sixty minutes the Commissioner detailed the social impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the emergency actions Europe had taken in response, and the proposals the European Commission intended to put forward. Several times during his remarks, Commissioner Schmit referred to social partner participation.
