EU: European Commission consults with the European social partners on addressing the challenges of work-life balance

At this stage the social partners are being consulted on the direction EU action could take over the work-life challenges facing parents and those caring for close dependents. In August 2015, the EU Commission published its roadmap that had assessed opinions on the issue (c.f. article No. 9215). The European Executive had promised this road map in exchange for its retraction of the longtime bogged down proposal to revise the maternity leave directive that had intended to extend this leave period. Thus, as of a message sent on 11 November, the social partners are now officially participating in consultations to assess current European legislation on work-life balance as well on improvements to the text. Responses from the consultations  are due by 04 January 2016.
