EU: European Parliament ‘almost’ ready to negotiate over posting of workers

On 16 October, the European Parliament’s Employment and Social Affairs Committee adopted its position on draft rules regarding the posting of workers. It has been planned for Member States to take their position on the issue on 23 October, at the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council, however the vote may be postponed, in the absence of a majority.

MEP’s in the Employment and Social Affairs Committee have come out in support of the principle that workers should get “equal pay for equal work in the same workplace”. On 16 October, the committee adopted its negotiating position – approved by a majority of deputies – as regards the delicate issue of posted workers. Unless one tenth of deputies demand a vote by the entire Parliament (rather than simply by a parliamentary committee) on 23 October, this position will be the one taken by the Parl
