EU: gas social partners to raise businesses’ awareness regarding demographic ageing and the skills shortage

“The issue of demographic ageing and the skills shortage appeared as an obvious topic for social dialog given what the gas sector should expect” explained Didier Baur, EPSU representative and VP of the European social dialog committee of the gas sector. This committee gathers the EPSU (public services) and EMCEF (chemistry, energy) for unions, and Eurogas for employers. “We started working nine months ago to see how the sector could do in 2020, when problems in terms of recruitment and skills start and posing serious problems” he went on. A study, a toolkit and a conference, later (see our dispatch No. 090908), the gas committee is looking for ways to raise the awareness of businesses about demographic challenges and trades’ evolution.
