EU: Luca Visentini to take over from Bernadette Ségol as the head of the European Trade Union Confederation

During preparations for the September Congress to be held in Paris, the executive committee has nominated the Italian unionist, Luca Visentini to take over from the current secretary general, Bernadette Ségol. Mr. Visentini joined the secretariat during the previous Congress will now head up the ETUC.

Educated as a philosopher and also a published author of poetry and novels, Luca Visentini joined the Italian Union of Labour (UIL) directly from university and has held the post of the ETUC Confederal Secretary since the Athens Congress in 2011 (c.f. article No. 110338), where is in charge of collective bargaining, migration, wage policy and lifelong learning. In principle his two deputy secretaries will be: Veronica Nilsson from the TCO Swedish union and similarly a Confederal Secretary since
