The MEPs will simply debate on the draft report adopted on February 23 (see our dispatch No. 100173) by the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality on the draft revision of the directive on pregnant women. The issue has been controversial for some time now. The British media launched a campaign to denounce the costs it would represent for the Member States: 20 weeks paid 100%, two weeks of paternity leave… this is too much for some European countries. In the UK, the State only compensates the employer for the first six weeks.
