New-born in the scenery of European social dialog, the sectoral committee of the metal sector should include the CEEMET (Council of European Employers of the Metal, Engineering and Technology-Based Industries) and the European Metalworkers’ Federation (EMF). These two organizations have been working together for a long time. As early as 2000, they started with education and training and then focused on skills shortages. The theme of anticipating skills needs, already looked at by the joint work group established by the two organizations, should naturally be one of the major focuses of the future sectoral social dialog committee. This new committee should officially be launched on January 14, 2010.
