On June 19, the European sectoral social dialogue committee for the port industry was formally launched in Brussels. This sector employs 1.5 million people without taking account of indirect jobs in port activities. The European social partners involved in this committee are: European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO) and European Federation of Private Port Terminal Operators for employers and the European Transport Workers Federation (ETF) and the International Dockers Coordination Europe for employees. The working program of this sectoral social dialogue committee for the coming years includes traditional themes addressed by similar committees as well as present and future stakes for this industry: training and skills, attracting young people, health and safety, the impact on employment of sulfur emissions, gathering data on industrial accidents and promoting women’s employment.
This sectoral committee is the 7th committee involving the ETF.
