On 16 December, the European Parliament formally approved the omnibus package amending the EU corporate sustainability reporting and due diligence directives. Their application has been pushed back, fewer companies are affected, and the relevant obligations have been weakened.
The agreement reached in trilogue talks on 9 December over the omnibus directive was adopted in plenary by the European Parliament, with 428 votes in favour to 218 against. The vote on 16 December confirms the major dilution of the EU corporate sustainability reporting and due diligence directives (CSRD and CSDDD) in terms of the threshold for companies concerned, the nature of their obligations and the penalties incurred.
