The European Globalization Adjustment Fund (EGF) is one of the tools of the European Recovery Plan launched by the European Commission (see our dispatch No. 080937). Active since January 2007, its intervention criteria are deemed unrealistic and the allocated budget too tight. In December, the Commission will make proposals to increase its efficiency. The European Commission announced, on Wednesday, November 26, announced that it wanted the EGF to “act quicker” and “make the most of its potential to face the crisis” (see our dispatch No. 080935). Since it was created, the EGF stepped in for 6 restructuring plans of an amount between €1million and €13 million. Six other files are waiting for approval, notably a request made by Italy nearly amounting to €19 million.
