EU: skills and environmental transition at the heart of the 2010 work program of the electricity social partners

Joint declaration. The EPSU, the EMCEF and Eurelectric opened, in 2009, talks around the issue of skills. A toolbox was created to anticipate the transition towards greener production with matching know-how. Its implementation will be at the center of the work carried our by the sectoral social dialog committee in 2010. Indeed, in addition to the question of reduced CO2 emissions and inevitable changes in electricity production, technological evolution, such as the possible introduction of smart meters to evaluate families’ electricity consumption, bring about the risk of job losses in businesses. On the other hand, a skills shortage could come from an ageing workforce. At the end of the year, the social partners will adopt a joint declaration to help businesses adapt to these changes.
