EU: the Commission is tightening the net around national collective bargaining in the Twenty Seven

Pensions.  The recommendations published on June 7th are part of the European quarter introduced last year to face the economic and financial crisis.  Based on the national programs presented by the 27 to stabilize their finances and develop growth and employment in Europe, they still need to be ratified by the 27.  In line with the Euro Pact adopted at the Spring Summit, the European Executive recommends that several countries quicken their pension reforms.  In France, Spain and Poland, recent reforms are on the right track but will not be enough to maintain the balance after 2020.  It recommends additional measures, such as lifelong learning for Spanish senior workers, or even the removal of all early retirement systems in Poland.  In Belgium, it is worried that the schedule for pension reforms isn’t complied with and insists to toughen early retirement terms, to implement better ratio between retirement age and life expectancy, and to adopt measures encouraging people over 50 to keep working.  Then, the Commission recommends a large-scale reform in Luxembourg.  It seems to believe that the bill currently under discussion, aiming to encourage workers to work as long as possible on a voluntary basis, would only affect new pensioners and would only have an impact in 40 years.
