The Czech Prime Minister, Mirek Topolanek and the Deputy Prime Minister, Alexandr Vondra presented, on January 6, 2009, at a press conference, the priorities and the program of the Czech EU presidency which started on January 1, 2009. Although most axes announced revolve around the economy, energy, Europe and its relations with the world, the social side isn't forgotten, especially regarding mobility. Nothing surprising for a presidency with "Europe without Barriers" as its motto. (Ref. 090016)
For the first
time, since January 1, 2009, twenty years after the fall of the Berlin wall and
of the iron curtain, the European Union is presided by a Member State from the
former communist bloc, the Czech Republic. The document presented by
the Czech EU presidency lists its priorities for the next six months and is
“the result of two years of preparation (…) in cooperation with France and
Sweden, [its] partners in the Presidency Trio.”
