In a resolution adopted on January 15, 2009, the European Parliament is concerned about Member States' delay in transposing Directive 2002/73 on the implementation of the principle of equal treatment for men and women as regards access to employment, vocational training and promotion, and working conditions. It says that the directive is poorly implemented and is asking the Member States to "encourage initiatives that contribute to setting up and implementing in companies human resources policies and positive measures promoting gender equality." More than three
years after the defined deadline, the Euro-assembly deplores the fact that it
still hasn’t received the reports on the transposition of the 2002 directive on
the implementation of equal treatment. This report had to be sent by each
Member State by October 5, 2005. The January 15 resolution is the occasion for
MEPs to remind the EU27 of the importance of this directive and of their obligations.
