EU: the social partners commit to continue working on accident prevention in the postal sector

In the introduction, they point to the intensification of labor in this “highly industrial” sector and remind their cooperation to promote prevention plans. In late 2004, this commitment translated into the creation of a workgroup composed of three union members and three members representing employers’ organizations. The declaration supports the good work which already led to the exchange of good practices between postal operators and received enlightenment from external experts on industrial accidents. Falls, musculo-skeletal troubles, risk assessment or even an ageing active population were identified in February as topics to put on the committee’s 2009 work program. At the end of 2008, experts and representatives from national operators exchanged on prevention programs already started in their respective countries. Armed with such progress, the social partners allow this workgroup, in their declaration of June 19, to extend its objectives, notably to the question of health at work. The European social dialogue committee on the postal sector was created in 1999. It particularly follows the evolutions of the sector which must be permanently liberalized in Europe between 2011 and 2013.
