EU: the social partners respond to the Commission’s EU 2020 Strategy

Unions mostly point to social consequences, increases by two elements they feel the European Commission fails to take into account: the environmental crisis and the demographic situation. BusinessEurope agrees that this last factor increases the low growth potential (around 1%, half its pre-crisis level). While their observation is the same, the social partners’ answers aren’t. In keeping with their traditional stand in European social dialog, the ETUC wants to give more weight to the social dimension of the EU 2020 strategy while the employers’ organization wants to “focus on the real drivers for a sustained economic revival on our continent: companies and entrepreneurs.”
