EU: toward the creation of three sectoral social dialogue committees

Education. In terms of its workforce, this important sector is also knocking on the door of the Commission for the installation of such a committee. A series of bipartite seminars with social partners from three to six countries has been organised by the European Union Committee for Education (EUCE) on the theme “toward European social dialogue by sector in education”. This cycle ended in Berlin on April 23. The outcome of these seminars, which convened teachers’ unions and employer representatives from most EU countries, was a report published on June 1 (v. link below). On June 4-5 a conference was held in Brussels to draw the conclusions. The goal is to introduce immediately topics of discussion for the future social dialogue committee by sector, “for example, said Martin Romer, general secretary of EUCE, the professional career of teachers, their training, long-life learning, health and security (including stress and violence at workplace)”. “The scope of application could include nursery, primary, secondary, higher and professional education. The object, at least in an initial stage, is education financed partly or totally by public funds”. Employers are represented by the CEEP.
