The members of the Employment and Social affairs (EMPL) Commission discussed, on last 12 September, the report of Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin (PPE-DE, France) concerning the creation of the "European globalization adjustment fund (EGF)". The French deputy notices some divergences, but no frank hostility to the fund. However, the criteria of attribution and the budget were quite debated. (Ref.06911)
The Social affairs commission of the European Parliament is divided between those who consider the criteria too limitative and the allowances too small, on one side, and those who do not want to complicate the administrative management of the fund, on the other. So, Elizabeth Schroedter (Green Party, Germany) underlines that the 500 million euros allocated to finance the EGF is a theoretical grant and wishes a commitment on a more important and long-term amount.
