The management of EVN, an Austrian company in the energy and water supply sector, set up a European works council on September 12, 2007. The company accounts for about 10.000 employees working mostly in Austria, Bulgaria and Macedonia. For the first time, a EWC is giving a Macedonian staff representative a permanent seat. In 2005 and 2006, the Austrian saw its workforce go from 2.600 to almost 10.000 employees, through the purchase of public service companies in Bulgaria and Macedonia when they became private. The council includes three Austrian representatives and three Bulgarian representatives, and one for Macedonia.
