The Italian metallurgy unions, brought together by the UITA and IFM international union organizations, are condemning the plan to build a new Fiat Tata factory in India, which would have "devastating" consequences on the local farming activities. (Ref. 070246)

Three Italian metallurgy unions called on the Fiat management to change the location of its new factory in India. Indeed, the building of the factory at Singur, in the West Bengal state, was planned as part of cooperation between Fiat and the Indian conglomerate Tata for the production of a “low cost” car.
