Finland’s major trade union in the private sector, TU (Toimihenkilöunioni), which has 126 000 members, has asked the Finnish management not to use the Baltic model for collective bargaining. (Ref.06171)
This request comes after an expert report pointing to Finnish companies’ strong tendency to sign no collective agreement in their subsidiaries located in neighboring Baltic countries. TU is opposed to this. According to its president, Antti Rinne, Baltic trade unions in these subsidiaries often have to hide or to wait a year for the employer’s response when they ask for the creation of a trade-union section. Anti Rinne says the Finnish management is forbidding trade-unionism in Baltic countries
