France: a recommandation reminds the rules on State aid to companies

A memo of January 26, 2006 relating to the application in France of Community rules on competition, involving government aid to companies (OJ n° 26 of January 31, 2006, p. 1602) reminds local authorities of the implications for France of the European regulations on State aid. (Ref. 0685)

The memo notices that European regulations on the matter “did not stop developing these last years and they are increasingly enforced by the European Commission”. The object of this memo, which repeals a preceding note of February 8, 1999 (OJ of February 27, 1999)”is to expose in a synthetic way Community legislation on competition as regards State aid and the procedure to be followed for its application at the local level”. This memo is supplemented by a vade mecum presenting in a detailed way
