The legal battle continues for French ex-employees of Samsonite. After a setback in the USA, they will now continue by taking the British branch of Bain Capital, an American investment fund, to court. Bain Capital was the main shareholder of the luggage manufacturer at the time, and they are accused of being responsible for their factory’s bankruptcy.
Having suffered a setback in the United States in recent months (see article n° 8225), the former Samsonite employees — who are mostly female — are not giving up the fight and have “filed a civil liability lawsuit against Bain Capital in the UK”, Fiodor Rilov revealed to Planet Labor. Rilov is the lawyer responsible for defending the 194 ex-employees of the Samsonite factory in Hénin-Beaumont (Pas-de-Calais) which brought operations to a definitive close in 2007.
