France: lasting conflict on special pension schemes

The strike against the reform on special pension schemes has been going on since November 13 among railway workers and in the urban transports around Paris. Union confederations' leaders, on the initiative of the CGT's leader, Bernard Thibault, were ready to take part to negotiations one company at a time with the participation of the State's representatives. The Labour Minister, Xavier Bertrand, accepted this principle, but it did not seem to be enough for union federations which decided to continue the industrial action. (Ref. 070944)

After a first massive mobilisation on October 18, railway workers and the parisian transport are on strike again since the night of November 13 against the reform of special pension schemes. This reform concerns the schemes of the companies the employees of which are on strike (SNCF and RATP) but also companies such as EDF and GDF (gas and electricity). In total, it concerns 500.000 workers and over one million retired people.
