Germany: 25.000 jobs threatened in the machine making sector

10.000 job cuts after liquidations. The impact on employment should be very sizeable because, true spearhead of German exports, the machine and facilities construction sector is, so it says, the largest industrial employer in Germany with about 975.000 employees. In 2009, the employers’ organization is expecting the suppression of 25.000 job cuts, 10.000 of which following liquidations. Besides, 50.000 agency workers should loose their job soon. 2008 was another record year for the sector’s businesses with an 8% increase in exports - €147 billion in nominal value – leading to the creation of 40.000 new jobs.
