For the second year in a row, the introduction of universal minimum wage was one of the central claims of the German Confederation of Trade Unions during Labor Day demonstrations. However, since it can’t be obtained shortly, Michael Sommer, leader of the DGB, was at least able to base his claims on concrete facts, namely the very recent signature of a new collective agreement in the temporary sector providing for the creation of partial minimum wage. Indeed, on Friday, April 30th, the DGB signed such an agreement with the iGZ, one of the three German employers’ federations in the temporary sector. The two other federations already signed similar agreements in February, between the small Confederation of Christian Unions (CGB) and the employers’ organization of temporary SMEs (see our dispatch No. 100149) and in march between the Federal Union of Temporary Enterprises (BZA) and the DGB (see our dispatch No. 100216).
