According to the German union foundation Hans-Böckler, the public service lost 2.1 million jobs in 20 years. The job creations expected in the private sector are far from compensating this loss. Meanwhile, the authors of the study point to a serious decrease in wage levels and a gradual marginalization of collective agreements in the public sectors majorly affected by liberalizations. The expected job creations in the private sector after the privatization of the Deutsche Post, Deutsche Telekom and parts of the local and hospital services is far from compensating the job cuts in the public sector. The study published this week by the Hans-Böckler Foundation – the German think tank – calculated a negative balance of minus 600.000 jobs in 20 years.
