For several months, the German press has been raising the alarm as extreme right-wing trade union Zentrum Automobil (ZA) has attempted to gain a foothold in the country’s automobile sector. Concerns were raised ahead of the election of works councils, which began on 1 March and will end on 31 May.
The ZA union is already represented by four elected works council members at the Daimler factory in Untertürkheim. The union has also submitted lists of candidates at four Daimler sites, as well as the Open site in Rüsselsheim and at BMW in Leipzig. In total, ZA represents around 500 candidates in the elections, out of some 180,000 in total.
