How can Germans be encouraged to take up the Covid-19 vaccine? As the nationwide vaccination campaign continues to slowly progress (62.4% of the population vaccinated), several German Länders, including Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Westphalia, North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria, have decided to end or are considering ending compensation for unvaccinated employees who are required to observe mandatory quarantine. The federal government and the Länders want to present a joint regulation on this issue in the near future. However, the measures taken by the Länders have sparked controversy.
Conditional compensation. Until now, and under the Protection against Infection Act (Infektionsschutzgesetz), employees having to observe a quarantine period and unable to work from home have received compensation for their salary loss over their quarantine period.
