Women who will give birth from the beginning of January 2007 will be able to leave during one year of professional life and earn a substitution wage reaching 67 % of their last take-home pay (300 euros at the very least, 1800 euros maximum). …Germany: deputies adopt bill on parental wage
The Lower Chamber of Parliament (Bundestag) approved, on September 29th, 2006, the creation of a parental wage (Elterngeld) which allows to grant to women 67 % of their last wage during 12 months, if they stop to work to take care of their child. This measure, which has yet to be approved by the Upper Chamber, should come into force on January 1st, 2007. (Ref. 06966)
