After several months of bargaining between the eight member unions of the German confederation of trade unions - DGB - an agreement was reached to reform the organization. The reform will spread from 2010 to 2014 and will reinforce local establishment and action. In exchange, the management and intermediate structures will be reduced. The 1.000 employees of the confederation are not threatened by dismissals. (Ref. 080880)
The attack launched by Bertold Huber, leader of the IG Metall, in early 2008, has finally borne fruit (see our dispatch No. 080267). In April, the IG Metall – the DGB’s first contributor – said that the confederation was an expensive structure and that it seemed as if it stopped wondering about its goals and its performance model. In the absence of structural reform, the IG Metall announced that it could invest the €50 million it fives the DGB each year into “more efficient” representation mode
