Germany: government agrees to the introduction of minimum wage in interim, surveillance and continuous education

Moderate increase of the Hartz IV allowance.  In February 2010, the Karlsruhe federal constitutional court forced the coalition parties to review the amount and calculation modalities of the Hartz IV allowance and the opposition fought for two months.  On Monday morning, they announced that they had reached an agreement.  The latter provides for a €5 increase in the Hartz IV allowance, paid to nearly 4.7 million long-term jobseekers, retroactively, on January 1st, bringing it to €364/month.  The allowance will then increase by €3 per month as of January 2012.  This agreement still needs the approval, on Tuesday night, of the arbitration committee created by the two houses of Parliament, the Bundesrat and the Bundestag.  However, there is no question as to the outcome of the vote.
