Germany: government to develop employees’ participation in companies’ profits and capital in the context of record bonuses

In 2008, most German large businesses will pay their employees record bonuses. Faced with these examples and the slow increase in German people's purchasing power, the Grand Coalition announced that it found a compromise on the issue of employees' share of companies' profits. (Ref. 080220)

For German employees in some large businesses, including the automotive industry, the level of profit sharing in 2007 will be particularly high. Porsche will pay to its 12.000 employees a €5.200 and Volkswagen a €3.700 bonus to 86.000 “home employees” (out of 169.000 in Germany). Advantaged employees are, among others, working for Mercedes (€3.750), Audi (€5.300), Merck (a thirteenth month), BASF (€3.100 to 5.300), Bosch (40% of gross monthly wage) or even Stihl (82% of gross monthly wage, €2.2
