Like the 3.6 million metalworkers who will soon receive their highest wage increase in 20 years (see our dispatch No. 120326), temporary workers in the metal industry - i.e. between 240,000 and 280,000 people – will also get higher wages in the future. On Monday night, May 21, the IG-Metall, the Federal Union of Temporary Workers (Bundesarbeitgeberverband der Personaldienstleister, BAP), and the Temporary Firms Group (iGZ) reached, after a 4th round in Frankfurt, a collective agreement which, for the first time, provides for the introduction of ‘sectoral bonuses’ (Branchenzuschläge). The bonuses, based on the wages determined in the collective agreements signed between the DGB’s unions and the two employers’ organizations (BDA and iGZ), will increase by stages, depending on the length of the temporary worker’s assignment in the company:
