The confederation of German trade unions (DGB) has published the evolution in the number of members of its eight trade unions for 2006. The deceleration in the decline of members observed at the beginning of last year is confirmed. (Ref. 070079)
In 2006, the number of DGB trade unions members continued to move back, to hit 6.6 million trade unionists (11 million in 1990), that is to say 193 000 less than in 2005. This amounts to a decline of 2.8 %, compared to 3.3 % in 2005. For the second consecutive year, IG Metall is first with 2.33 million members (2.38 in 2005).
