Germany : Metro group created a new company to get away from collective agreements

Whereas warning strikes started in the retailing sector after the ongoing branch collective negotiations failed, Metro, one of the most important retail groups in the world, has just created a new LLC (Limited Liability Company) to be able to open supermarkets for the Real brand without taking into account the existing collective agreements. On October 31, 2007, the Real brand (belonging to the Metro group) will open a store in Lübeck, Germany. Before the end of the year, a second one will open in Wolfsburg. Contrary to the 442 Real stores and the 259 Extra stores (47.900 employees total) which the Metro group owns in Germany and Europe, these two shops will depend on the “Dritte real,- SB-Warenhaus GmbH” and not on the “Erste real,- SB-Warenhaus GmbH .”
