What can you do when your workstation becomes a sauna? Can room temperature go over 26ºC? Do employers need to take prevention measures? According to the IG-Metall, these questions come back every year as summer nears. However, this year, the answers are different, because a new “directive on room temperature at work” (Arbeitsstätten-Regel A3.5 Raumtemperatur) was enforced on June 23rd. It replaces the previous directive, “Arbeitsstätte-Richtlinie 6.” It is part of the “technical regulations” that regularly materialize the objectives contained in the “work ordinance” (Arbeitsstättenverordnung). These regulations are developed by a council made up of representatives from the government, employers and unions and answering to the Employment Ministry.
